SEATTLE, WA – Kanye West gave a homeless man $100 earlier this week but apparently Beyoncé and JAY-Z just one-uped him. On Thursday night (October 4), teenager Khairi Perry attended the Seattle stop on the power couple’s On The Run II Tour and left with a $100,000 college scholarship.
According to the News Tribune, the once-homeless teen Perry received the funds from the BeyGood and Shawn Carter Foundations.
“Even when I got older and started to understand my situation, I still didn’t ask questions because I figured no one could answer them,” Perry told the Federal Way Mirror in 2017. “I would try to find an answer myself. When that was a dead end, it was school and sports that were there for me.”
Now a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, Perry was recently named the King County Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club and earned a $2,000 scholarship as a result.
In the future, the aspiring chemical engineer hopes to attend the University of Oregon.
Perry is one of 11 high school seniors from across the U.S. who were given $100,000 scholarships from Hov and Beyoncé.
In a video posted on Beyonce.com, Perry expressed his surprise and gratitude.
“I’m so grateful. I feel so empowered,” Perry said. “I’ll be able to go to college. Any college I want … if you have a dream, follow it.”
